Richard Alston-Triple Bill description

Richard Alston’s newest creation comes to Sadler’s Wells as part of a triple bill. Chacony is inspired by the richness and nobility of Henry Purcell’s slow and weighty Baroque Chaconne, and Britten’s tribute to it. This extraordinary music will be played by an onstage string quartet.

Martin Lawrence’s Tangent intertwines four couples as they attack the tango, accompanied by Piazzolla Estaciones Porteños, played live by Jason Ridgway on piano.

Alston’s hugely popular Gypsy Mixture, revived for the first time in a decade, brings with it a 21st century take on traditional Balkan folk music.
