Rhapsody / the two pigeons description
Frederick Ashton, Founder Choreographer of The Royal Ballet, defined the English style. In this double programme the Company celebrates Ashton and his legacy in two contrasting works. Rhapsody, created in 1980, is one of Ashton’s final works. Created for Mikhail Baryshnikov, it is a celebration of the male virtuoso – though Ashton also endows the Principal female role with choreography of breathtaking clarity and speed.
Not seen at the Royal Opera House since 1985, The Two Pigeons (1962) is a quintessential Ashton work. In his story of a wayward young man blind to the value of what is right in front him, Ashton explores the nature of love in one of his most charming, elegant and moving works.
