After winning Time Out Best Young Comic in 1991, Alan took on the title role of the BAFTA Award winning Jonathan Creek.



Following sell out tours, and a west end season Alan has starred in QI hosted by Stephen Fry since 2003.



Other TV includes; BAFTA Award nominated Bob & Rose; Roman Road; The Brief; The Good Housekeeping Guide; Marple and Lewis. In 2010 he took the lead role in the critically acclaimed Whites. Film work Includes the hit movie Angus,Thongs and Perfect Snogging. Alan also co-wrote and starred in a short film for Sky One as part of their Little Crackers Christmas 2011 season.



Alan's book My Favourite People and Me 1978-1988, was adapted into a three part documentary series for Channel 4 called Teenage Revolution and is available in paperback under that title.



In 2011 QI Live toured Australia followed by a sell-out tour of his own new stand-up show, Life Is Pain, which will run at this year's Edinburgh Festival then embark on a UK.
